ABONDANCE MONTRÉAL équipe gagnante du concours national de logement écologique

Aujourd'hui est annoncé qu'une équipe montréalaise de design, Abondance Montréal, fait partie de l’ une des 12 équipes canadiennes qui ont été choisies pour participer à l’initiative EQuilibrium soit la conception de maison écologique et écoénergétique de la société canadienne d’hypothèques et de logement (SCHL). L'annonce a lieu ce matin au siège social de la SCHL à Ottawa en présence de M. Monte Solberg, ministre des ressources humaines et du développement social.

Pendant plus de six mois, l'équipe a travaillé à la conception d’un triplex qui va produire annuellement autant d'énergie qu'il en consommera.

L'équipe est le résultat d’un partenariat composé de : Les Développements EcoCité, Les Constructions Sodero inc., l’atelier d’architectes Studio MMA, les ingénieurs en électricité et en mécanique PMA (Pageau Morel et associés) et le professeur Michel Bernier de l’École Polytechnique de Montréal.

Abondance Montréal va construire un triplex hautement écoénergétique et efficace à Verdun, juste au sud du centre-ville de Montréal. Cette équipe fait appel à un vaste éventail de techniques et de technologies écoénergétiques dont des systèmes à énergie renouvelable. On obtient ainsi un immeuble pouvant accueillir trois familles qui produiront autant d’énergie qu’elles en consommeront au cours d’une année. En même temps, tous les aspects verts de la construction offriront à ses occupants un milieu de vie confortable, sain, abordable, écologique, et beau.

Le projet d’Abondance Montréal se compose de trois unités EcoCondos (MC) (4½) dans un triplex qui sera construit à Montréal. L'énergie est produite par l'utilisation des technologies de géothermie, panneaux solaires électriques (photovoltaïque) et panneaux solaires d'eau chaude (thermique).

Le logement du rez-de-chaussée servira pendant un an, à la fin de la construction, d’unité de démonstration afin d’illustrer ce qu’est un bâtiment de conception écoénergétique. Cette démonstration s’adressera au grand public, aux gens de l’industrie et aux médias. Tous seront conviés à une visite. Un monitorage de la consommation énergétique des appareils permettra de suivre la consommation de chacun. La construction du triplex commencera ce printemps, et le bâtiment sera complété et prêt pour occupation et pour la démonstration à l’automne 2007.

En plus, il y aura en phase 2 un édifice de 18 EcoCondos™ prêt pour l'énergie zéro, construit sur le même terrain. Les travaux débuteront à l’automne 2007.

Caractéristiques du projet

· Un triplex de trois unités EcoCondos (MC) de deux chambres à coucher a
77 m² (828 pieds carrés)

· Produit plus d’énergie qu’il n’en consomme annuellement

· Pompe géothermique, capteurs thermiques solaires sous vide, récupération de la chaleur des eaux ménagères et 84 panneaux solaires

· Concept et plan d’aménagement adaptés au climat et à l’emplacement

· Amélioration de la qualité de l’air intérieur et contrôle de l’humidité

· Éléments et commodités d’avant-garde

· Coût mensuel total de 1219 $ incluant les coûts hypothécaires et énergétiques

· Situé à Montréal, arrondissement Verdun, sur le boulevard Lasalle au coin de Rushbrooke tout près du métro et de la piste cyclable.

EQuilibrium est une initiative de logement nationale dirigée par la Société canadienne d’hypothèques et de logement (SCHL) qui réunit les secteurs public et privés dans le bût de créer des maisons saines qui produisent autant d’énergie qu’elles en consomment au cours d’une année. Axées sur les principes fondamentaux que sont la santé et le confort des occupants, l’efficacité énergétique, la production d’énergie renouvelable, la conservation des ressources, la réduction des impacts sur l’environnement et l’abordabilité, les habitations EQuilibrium offriront aux acheteurs potentiels les avantages suivants :

• Des factures d’énergie réduites en toute saison;
• Des maisons plus saines et plus confortables;
• Une source d’électricité fiable et renouvelable;
• Un impact environnemental grandement réduit;
• Des collectivités dynamiques et durables pour les générations à venir.

Pour établir une vision claire des avantages à long terme des maisons EQuilibrium, la SCHL a invité des constructeurs et des promoteurs à soumettre des propositions afin de prendre part à un projet pilote tout à fait unique.

En tout, 72 équipes ont accepté de relever ce défi, et après un processus de sélection intensif, 12 de ces équipes (trois au Québec) ont été retenues pour construire des maisons de démonstration EQuilibrium. En plus de recevoir une aide technique et financière ainsi qu’un soutien marketing, ces constructeurs feront figure de pionniers en ouvrant la voie à la propagation d’habitations à la fois saines, abordables, durables et écoénergétiques.

Une fois qu’elles seront construites, les maisons de démonstration offriront aussi une occasion exceptionnelle de mesurer la performance des bâtiments EQuilibrium en conditions réelles, à la grandeur du pays, et de planifier les prochaines étapes du déploiement à plus grande échelle de cette initiative.

Le projet d’ Abondance Montréal est un exemple de l’excellence en habitation qui plaît aux propriétaires occupants d’aujourd’hui, tout en répondant aux besoins en énergie renouvelable du milieu urbain de demain.

Montreal design team wins CMHC’s national eco-housing competition

Today it was announced that the Montreal design team, Abondance Montréal, has been named as one the winning teams in a national competition to create zero energy housing. The announcement occurred this morning at CMHC headquarters in Ottawa in the presence of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development.

The EQuilibrium sustainable housing competition is a creation of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

As part of this initiative, the Abondance Montréal team has worked for over six months to develop a triplex that annually generates as much energy as it consumes.

The team is a who’s who of Montreal green design experts: EcoCité Developments, Les Constructions Sodero Inc., Studio MMA Architects, Pageau Morel et associés inc. engineers, and Prof. Michel Bernier from l’École Polytechnique de Montréal.

The project consists of three 2-bedroom EcoCondos in a Montreal-style walkup. Energy is generated through the use of geoexchange, solar electric (photovoltaic) and solar hot water technologies. The building uses the latest in energy efficient building design, while ensuring that components are all readily available from local suppliers.

More than just energy efficient, the homes will also be water and material efficient, and be finished using only healthy, ecological materials.

One unit of the housing project will be used as a demonstration suite for a year after construction, allowing the public, members of the construction industry, and the media to visit the building and learn more about sustainable, energy efficient design. Another 18 EcoCondos™ that will be ‘zero energy ready’ will be built on the same site, starting fall 2007

Construction on the triplex will start this spring, and the building will be complete and ready for occupancy and demonstration this fall.

Project Characteristics

• A three storey building that consists of three 2-bedroom EcoCondos™ of 77 m2 (828 sq. ft.)
• Produces as much energy as it consumes. Energy produced through geoexchange, a solar hot water system and 84 photovoltaic panels, which form an shade canopy on the rooftop terrace.
  
• Superior interior air quality and humidity control.
• Superior envelope and structural design for better thermal and acoustic comfort
• Finished using exclusively healthy and ecological products.
• Total monthly cost of $1219 for all mortgage and energy costs.

EQuilibrium Housing

EQuilibrium is a national housing initiative created by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), which joins the public and private sectors in building homes that produce the energy they consume annually. Centred on the fundamental principles of occupant health and comfort, energy efficiency, renewable energy production, resource conservation, reduced environmental impacts, as well as affordability, EQuilibrium dwellings will offer the following advantages:

• Reduced energy bills;
• Healthier and more comfortable homes;
• Reliable and renewable electricity, on site;
• A large reduction of the occupant’s environmental footprint;
• Dynamic and sustainable communities for generations to come.

To establish a clear vision of the long-term advantages of EQuilibrium Housing, the CMHC invited builders and developers from across Canada to submit proposals which demonstrated the ability to deliver a pilot project. In all 72 teams took up the design challenge, and after an intensive process of selection, 12 of these teams (3 in Quebec), including Abondance Montréal, were selected to build EQuilibrium demonstration projects. In addition to receiving technical, financial, and promotional assistance from CMHC, these developers will help open the door for others to create homes that are healthy, accessible, sustainable and energy efficient.

Abondance Montréal is an excellent example of a development that can be delivered now, while also taking into consideration the needs of the future.

Follow-up Charrette a Great Success!

In September, the team held a kick-off Charrette to tackle more general challenges around the notion of designing a Net-Zero Triplex in Montréal. Last week was the team’s second Charrette, and after several months of design work, we were able to have a much more focused discussion around key challenges for the project.

The daylong event took place at the offices of Pageau Morel et associés. There were 17 participants in total, including facilitator, the core group of professionals, the local planner and public works official, a few graduate students, and a few other key experts.

The day started with brief introductions, and a revision of the project’s current design status. Afterwards we were able to dive into the thick of the meeting, which was comprised of four rounds of brainstorming around the issues of natural ventilation, integrated roof top design, affordability, and instructional architecture. It was felt that the facilitated discussions were very successful in generating ideas for both the optimisation and promotion of the “Abondance Montréal” project.

Unlike the first charrette, where the large group was divided into smaller groups for the brainstorming sessions, it was decided due to the level of participation and eagerness of the group as a whole that we would have the discussions all together around one table. The sessions lasted about one hour each, and the results were very positive.

Between now and the January deadline for the Phase 2 final report, we will be incorporating a number of the ideas and comments that came from the meeting.
